This summer the Presque Isle Partnership was proud to be a sponsor for Outdoor Stew. The kids participated in a four day camp (June 22-25) that focused on four principles: Leave No Trace, I Conserve, Get Outdoors, and Environmental Stewardship. The first day, campers learned all about Presque Isle and its rich history, and they spent time exploring the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. The second day, the kids fished, learned how to cook fish, and and kayaked in the lagoons of Presque Isle. The third and fourth days featured an overnight camping trip on Beach 11 of Presque Isle. The campers hiked, learned how to set up camp, sang campsongs, and learned how to clean up camp the next morning. The Outdoor Stew concluded with the kids taking a walk on the beach, and reflecting on everything they learned. It was such a successful week, and all the campers had so much fun! Presque Isle Partnership is glad to take part in such a rewarding experience.

During sunny days in May and early June, and again in late August and September, large groups of these turtles can be seen at Graveyard Pond, usually several dozen of them together on one log. They bask in the warm sun to raise their body temperature and get rid of leeches, fungal growth and algae from their shells and skin.

In 2006 the Keepers of the Erie Lights, a newly formed committee, began working to uncover information about the three light stations on our shores. The structures include the Presque Isle Lighthouse, the Land Lighthouse and the North Pier Light. The committee's focus for the present is on the Presque Isle Lighthouse.
