The playground in the Waterworks area is one of the Partnership’s proudest accomplishments and most popular additions to Presque Isle State Park.
In 2005, the Partnership replaced the outdated playground with one that was more creative, durable and challenging for the children. The unique playground was an instant success. Its design left room for expansion, and in September 2008 two swing sets were added to the playground.
The 2009 expansion included a 24’ rope bridge and three story climbable tower. These additions create an exciting play space for children of all ages and a fun resource to increase physical activity resulting in imaginations running wild!
The completed Waterworks Playground was dedicated on May 20, 2009 when a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held. Present were many individuals from the organizations who played a role in the fruition of this project. The Presque Isle Partnership board of directors, as well as representatives from DCNR, the Erie Community Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Erie, and State Senator Jane Earll were all a part of the dedication ceremony. A few lucky kids got out of school early to enjoy the event as well.
