Waterworks Emergency Intake Gear Tower Restoration

Park enthusiasts Dan & Sallie Shipley grew up enjoying their summers at the park. In 2018, they approached the Erie Water Authority and DCNR about the possibility of restoring the iconic Waterworks Emergency Intake Gear Tower. All agreed it was a worthwhile project to take on and the Shipley’s donated significant funding towards the tower’s restoration.

With volunteer Ray Halt leading the restoration effort, the newly restored gear tower was returned home to Presque Isle’s Waterworks area in September of 2018. Alex Roofing, Lakeshore Towing, DonJon Shipbuilding , Shutte Woodworking, DCNR and the Erie Water Authority were instrumental in bringing the tower back it’s former glory.
